Due to partisan and ideological wrangling, the congressional appropriations process has been conducted outside of regular order for nearly a decade. This has led to a contraction in defense funding levels inconsistent with America’s defense needs and obligations, most notably in the form of the 2011 defense budget sequestration. NDIA has been active in promoting smarter, compromise-driven approaches to defense budgeting that ensures national defense programs are adequately and responsibly funded.
