Bio

Jana Murphy serves as Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs for Saab, Inc., a global provider of defense, security, air traffic control, and airline and airport operations management.  As part of the executive management team, she oversees communications and government affairs for the United States.

Ms. Murphy’s responsibilities include federal, state and international government affairs, internal and external communication, employee engagement, media relations and branding.  She leads the company’s relationships with Capitol Hill, the Executive Branch and industry partners.

Jana previously served as the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Chief of Staff during the George W. Bush Administration.  A key advisor to the Administrator and the Deputy Administrator in the day-to-day administration and management of the agency, Jana’s work touched every facet of the agency including safety, air traffic management, modernization, security, space, and international affairs.

Prior to FAA, Mrs. Murphy served at the United States Department of Transportation's (DOT) Office of the Secretary as Assistant to the Secretary for Policy. At DOT, she worked as a key advisor to the Secretary on the rollout of The Next Generation Air Transportation Financing Reform Act of 2007 and the broadening of Open Skies agreements with China and the European Union.

Before joining DOT, Jana worked on Capitol Hill where she was Policy Director to a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure and Armed Services Committees. From 2001-2007, she covered a broad range of issues including aviation, highways, railroads and water infrastructure.  Additionally, she coordinated the Congressman's appropriations and policy strategies in Washington and strategic outreach in the congressional district, which included Ft. Bragg.

Prior to her federal service, Jana began her career in education, teaching in Fairfax County and King George County Schools. She managed the daily affairs of twenty-five 5-7 year old students — her most challenging assignment yet.

Jana holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Taylor University in Upland, Indiana, where she was honored with the 2017 Roselyn G. Kerlin Women in Leadership Award.  She serves on the Board of the Aero Club of Washington, the National Defense Industrial Association Board of Directors, and the Taylor University Board of Visitors.  Mrs. Murphy and her husband reside in the Washington, DC area with their two children.
