Dr. Ron Hann is the Director for Technology Integration at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM), Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC. In this role, Dr. Hann supports development and growth for the institute and Piedmont Triad Region across a myriad of activities including staff professional development, international and government business development, support for the affiliated 501(c)3 non-profit RegenMed Development Organization (ReMDO), and the RegenMed Hub located within Winston Salem’s Innovation Quarter.
Dr. Hann retired from the U.S. Army Chemical Corps in 2014, following nearly 27- years of active-duty service. Assignments included command and staff positions at all levels within the Army. Academically, Dr. Hann served two tours as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He is a decorated combat veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He also served in the NATO peacekeeping mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina as part of Operation Joint Forge.
Dr. Hann joined the Senior Executive Service (SES) corps in the Department of Defense in 2014 and served as the Director of the Chemical and Biological Technologies Department at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), located at Fort Belvoir, VA. There he and his team developed tools and capabilities to mitigate the threats posed by chemical and biological weapons to our Nation’s warfighters. Accomplishments there included sponsoring the development of the field deployable hydrolysis system used to destroy Syria’s declared chemical weapons program and fielding of the first ever FDA approved diagnostic and vaccine for Ebola Zaire.
In Jan., 2021, Dr. Hann became the Acting Director, Research and Development Directorate (RD) at DTRA. While RD Director, he supported DTRA’s mission to enable the Department of Defense (DoD) and U.S. Government to prepare for and combat weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and emerging threats and to ensure nuclear deterrence. Dr. Hann departed government service in 2022 following 37 years of service in and out of uniform.
Dr. Hann holds a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemistry from the College of William and Mary and a doctorate in organic synthesis from the University of Virginia.
