Dr. Oren Milstein is CEO and Chief Scientific Officer of StemRad, an Israeli-American company that develops, manufactures, and sells personal protective equipment (PPE) for ionizing radiation. It is the first company to produce PPE intended to protect users from high-energy ionizing radiation and the first to employ selective shielding in its products. Dr. Milstein co-founded StemRad to protect nuclear first responders in November of 2011, shortly after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in Japan and has since then expanded StemRad’s product line to protect astronauts and physicians. Formerly, Dr. Milstein was an NIH fellow at the Scripps Research Institute, where he discovered a novel mechanism for iron deficiency anemia. Dr. Milstein received his Ph.D. degree from the Weizmann Institute of Science in 2008, where he developed novel strategies for bone marrow transplantation into irradiated subjects.
