Bio

Dr. Charles A. Bass manages applied research and advance technology development for protection and hazard mitigation areas in the Chemical and Biological Defense Program (CBDP) and has served in this position for the last seventeen years.  He brings to the position over 42 years of experience in chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear weapons defense in tactical through strategic applications. 

Dr. Bass’s career has included service in the military and private industry.  He served for over twenty years of active duty in U.S. Army Chemical Corps retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.  Highlights of his military career include serving as a Strategic Planner on U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command’s “Army After Next” study, the Division Chemical Officer for the 2d Infantry Division, an Assistant Professor at the United States Military Academy in the Department of Chemistry, and a paratrooper stationed in Vicenza, Italy. Dr. Bass has a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, a Masters of Chemical Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University, and a Bachelors of Science in Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles.  He holds a Masters of Military Arts and Sciences from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, School of Advanced Military Studies.  He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia and a Certified Level III Acquisition Professional in Program Management.
