CAPT Mark Scheckelhoff is a USPHS Commissioned Officer currently serving as the Program Director for the BioWatch Program within the Department of Homeland Security Office of Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction. His educational background includes a Master’s in molecular genetics, a Ph.D in microbiology, and a Master’s of Public Health focused on emergency management. CAPT Scheckelhoff previously served in the US Army as a clinical microbiologist and as the Technical Director within the Pentagon Force Protection Agency. As a USPHS Officer, he previously worked within DHS as the Director of Laboratory Operations for the BioWatch Program. He has also served as the Respiratory Disease Portfolio lead for the Global Emerging Infectious Disease Surveillance Program within the Defense Health Agency as well as a Senior Management Scientist for the Division of Detection, Diagnostics, Devices, and Infrastructure within the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority.
