BG Luke Peterson became Program Executive Officer for Combat Support & Combat Service Support (PEO CS&CSS) on 30 June 2022. In this role, he provides professional and executive management for the development, systems integration, acquisition, testing, fielding, sustainment, and modernization of approximately 250 diverse equipment systems across the Army's Transportation, Quartermaster, Ordnance, and Engineer portfolios.
Prior to this assignment, he served as the Deputy Director-Transition supporting the Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office from August 2020 through June 2022. He was responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing all program transition requirements for RCCTO signature capabilities transitioning to respective Program Executive Offices and Program Managers. Previously, BG Peterson served as the Deputy Director supporting the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology) Deputy for Acquisition & Systems Management (DASM).
BG Peterson enlisted in the Army in 1987 and was later awarded an ROTC Green-to-Gold scholarship. He graduated from the University of Tampa as a Distinguished Military Graduate in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and was commissioned as an Armor officer.
His operational assignments include Tank Platoon Leader, “Deathrider” Company, 1st Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fulda, Germany; Headquarters Company Executive Officer, 2nd Battalion, 68th Armor, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany; Commander, “Killer” Troop, 3rd Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Polk, LA; and he deployed to Bosnia and Herzegovina in support of OPERATION JOINT GUARD.
BG Peterson began his Army Acquisition career in 1998 as a combat developer in the Directorate of Force Development, Fort Knox, KY. Other acquisition assignments include assistant project manager, Non-Line of Sight-Launch System; assistant product manager, High Mobility Artillery Rocket System; deputy product manager, Precision Guided Missiles/Rockets; all within PEO Missiles and Space, Redstone Arsenal, AL. He then went on to serve as the product manager, Network Systems, PEO Integration and PEO Command, Control, Computers, Tactical; and subsequently deployed to Regional Command–South as the Acquisition Advisor in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, Afghanistan. He was then selected as Program Executive Officer, Special Operation Forces Support Activity, Bluegrass Station, Lexington, KY. Upon completing this colonel-level command, he served as the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics and Technology) Acquisition Advisor to the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command as part of the Senior Acquisition Leader Development Program and Chief of Staff for both U.S. Army Contracting Command and PEO Missiles and Space, Redstone Arsenal, AL.
His advanced degrees include a master’s in Systems Acquisitions Management from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA; an a master’s in National Resource Strategy from the Senior Service College at the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy, Washington, D.C.
BG Peterson’s military decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with one oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Staff Badge, Ranger Tab, and Parachute Badge. He is a graduate of the Armor Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Airborne School, Ranger School, Scout Platoon Leader’s Course, and Command and General Staff College. He is Level III certified in Program Management.
