Bio
General (Retired) Edward M. Daly retired on May 1st, 2023 after 36 years of honorable service to our Nation. In his last assignment, Ed Daly served as the 20th Commanding General of the U.S. Army Materiel Command, as one of only 16 4-Star Generals in the United States Army. In this role, he led one of the Army’s largest commands with 190,000 Military and Department of the Army Civilians and Contractors, providing logistics, installation support, and sustainment/materiel readiness that impacted not only the U.S Army and Department of Defense, but all 50 states and more than 150 countries.Throughout his almost four decades service in the Army, Ed commanded at the Company, Battalion, Brigade, and General Officer levels. He served in assignments within Army Divisions/Units throughout the world and has had multiple combat tours in support of Operations DESERT SHIELD/STORM, IRAQI FREEDOM, and ENDURING FREEDOM.
As a multi-functional logistician who specialized in supporting the Army and the Joint Force from the Continental United States to the tactical points of need worldwide, Ed is an expert in combat operations, supply chain, manufacturing/production, distribution, and effectively leading complex organizations. He is one of only 242 4-Star Generals ever to serve in the United States Army and the only career Logistics 4-Star General to graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point since its founding in 1802.
General (Retired) Daly has taken on the role of an Executive Fellow with the Institute for Defense and Business (IDB), a notable non-profit organization based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This position further exemplifies his commitment to bridging the gap between industry and military leadership. In this capacity, he utilizes his extensive experience to contribute significantly to the development of future strategic thinkers and leaders in defense and business sectors.
General (Retired) Daly hails from Jersey City, New Jersey; graduated Saint Peter’s Preparatory School in 1983; and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Ordnance Corps upon his graduation from the United States Military Academy in 1987. He earned Master’s Degrees in Business Administration from Gonzaga University and in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.
His awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Combat Action Badge, and Parachutist Badge. He is a former Honorary ROCK of Year Awardee and a member of the Saint Peter's Prep, U.S. Army Ordnance, and Army Materiel Command Halls of Fame.
General (Retired) Daly is married to the former Cathy Ikey, USMA Class of 1991 and former U.S. Army Captain. They have three children: Nicole, Connor, and Mitchell.
