CBRN Threat Update - A Classified Session
Mr. Steve Griffin is the Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Information Analysis Directorate within the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) office. In this role, he manages and drives the intelligence cycle as part of the DHS Intelligence Enterprise in order to collect and produce information and intelligence to answer DHS’s intelligence requirements relating to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, food-agriculture-veterinary, and health security issues.
Prior to his current assignment, Mr. Griffin served as the Director of Plans and Operations in U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) Office of Intelligence (OI) where he was responsible for the management of CBP’s nationwide collection operations, including technical collection, human intelligence, and full motion video exploitation. Prior to that, he served as the Deputy Director of OI’s Counterintelligence Division, where he managed the cyber intelligence and insider threat programs. Mr. Griffin’s previous Intelligence Community assignments include a variety of analytical, operational, and managerial positions with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), U.S. Cyber Command (CYBERCOM), and the National Security Agency (NSA).
Mr. Griffin began his career in the U.S. Army, where he served as both an armor officer and a military intelligence officer. He has numerous combat deployments to the CENTCOM theater. As a U.S. Army Reservist, he has served in a number of intelligence, staff, and command assignments supporting the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security (OUSD I&S), U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), U.S. Pacific Command (PACOM), U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM), the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR), the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), and the National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC).
Mr. Griffin holds master’s degrees in National Security Policy and Military Arts and Science from Georgetown University and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, bachelor’s degrees in business and history from Auburn University, and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, the Military Intelligence Captains Career Course, the CIA Kent School’s Career Analyst Program, and the DHS Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program. He is the recipient of several military and civilian decorations, including the Defense Superior Civilian Service Award, the Director of National Intelligence Meritorious Service Award, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Ranger Tab, and the U.S. Army General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award.
