Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer
2023 Tactical Wheeled Vehicles Conference
Duncan is a former British Army officer who served in a wide variety of combat and training roles in a career that spanned over 20 years, including seconded service with both the US Army at NTC Fort Irwin, and the Canadian Army at the Combat Training Centre. In 2016 he co-founded Kognitiv Spark, a leading Mixed Reality (MR) software company based in Canada. In addition to the role of COO he leads a team delivering numerous high profile commercial MR projects, primarily focused on the Defense, Maritime and Aerospace sectors.
Since 2017 the team at Kognitiv Spark have received numerous awards from Microsoft for their work in MR and Defence & Intelligence as a result of their unique capabilities that create low bandwidth and highly secure software solutions for the Microsoft HoloLens platform. In 2018 Kognitiv Spark received a NATO Innovation Challenge award for their work on use of technology to reduce cognitive burden for military decision making.
In 2022 this focus on the cognitive impacts of MR led Kognitiv Spark to collaborate with the University of New Brunswick to launch the Spatial Computing Education Training and Research Laboratory (SPECTRAL). This pioneering first-of-kind facility is focused on identifying and exploiting the impacts of MR in the Aerospace & Defense sectors.
Duncan has been recognized for his executive leadership and mentoring skills in highly demanding operational environments. He is regularly asked to speak on these experiences, in addition to being invited to provide his thoughts on the adoption of Mixed Reality at technology and trade events.
