Bio
Mr. Einar Irgens Gustafson is the Defense Industry Cooperation Counselor at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Washington, DC. In his role, Mr. Gustafson is the focal point for all interaction between the Norwegian Government and Norwegian defense and security industry in the United States. He is responsible for Norwegian Ministry of Defence (MoD) delegations to all major defense-industrial events in the US, and serves as a valued advisor to MoD leadership on issues such allied innovation cooperation and closer integration of Norway's defense industry in the American defense-industrial base. Mr. Gustafson also functions as the Embassy liaison for the Norwegian-American Defense Industry Council (NADIC), serves as Vice Chair of the Defense MoU Attaches Group (DMAG), and is Vice President of the Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce, Mid-Atlantic Chapter (NACCMA). Previous to his diplomatic career, Mr. Gustafson worked with ocean robotics systems for 12 years, and has extensive experience developing AUVs, UGVs, and underwater crawling robots. He worked at Bluefin Robotics in Cambridge, MA for seven years as a program manager, where he led large AUV development projects for commercial and military customers worldwide. Mr. Gustafson then worked for QinetiQ North America for two years, managing UGV and underwater mine disposal robot programs. After his decade-long tenure in the U.S. defense industry, Mr. Gustafson worked for two and a half years at KONGSBERG Maritime in Horten as Sales Manager for the HUGIN AUV product line, focusing on the North- and South American markets. Mr. Gustafson received his MSc in Marine Technology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in 1999, and an MSc in Ocean Engineering from Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in 2001.
