Deputy Commanding General
NDIA Small Business Innovation Summit and SBIR Topics Workshop
Brig. Gen. David C. Trybula assumed the role of Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) on June 8, 2021. In this role, Trybula leads DEVCOM’s Data and Analytics Domain and serves as key champion for DEVCOM’s international and domestic partnerships that underpin the Command’s ability to innovate on behalf of the U.S. Army. He concurrently serves as the Senior Commander of the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Systems Center, located in Natick, Massachusetts.
Trybula entered the Army upon graduation from the United States Military Academy in 1989. He was commissioned as an Armor officer and served his company grade time in Armor and Cavalry units before receiving his functional area designation as an Operations Research Systems Analyst.
Trybula has served at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels. Over the last 10 years, he served in the following key assignments: Commanding General White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico and Deputy Commanding General U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC) for Developmental Testing White Sands Missile Range, Deputy Chief of Staff for Army Futures Command Headquarters in Austin, Texas; Strategic Initiatives Group Chief for the Under Secretary of the Army, Arlington, Virginia; Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Resources, Facilities, and Strategy, and Director, Prospective Clinical Analytics, U.S. Army Medical Command, Falls Church, Virginia; Director, Afghan Assessment Group, Headquarters, International Security Assistance Force, Kabul, Afghanistan; Senior Strategist and Executive Director, Army Science Board, Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of the Army, Arlington; Chief of Staff, Army National Cemeteries Program, Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington.
His two combat tours include Operation Desert Storm in Iraq and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
Trybula’s civilian education includes a bachelor’s degree from the United States Military Academy, and a master’s degree and a doctorate in economics from the University of Texas at Austin.
Trybula’s awards and decorations include the Office of the Secretary of Defense Identification Badge, the Army Staff Identification Badge, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (7 awards), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4 awards), Army Commendation Medal for Valor, Army Commendation medal (2 awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (3 awards), National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, International Security Assistance Force NATO Medal, Saudi Arabia Kuwait Liberation Medal, and the Kuwaiti Kuwait Liberation Medal. He is also a recipient of the Order of Saint George and an Honorary Member of the Order of Military Medical Merit.
