Description
Enabling the Joint Warfight: Information Advantage
Join NDIA's Emerging Technologies Institute (ETI) for the last of our four-part series titled "Enabling the Joint Warfight", covering the Joint Warfighting Concept Strategic Directives. The Joint Chiefs of Staff have embraced the revision of the Joint Warfighting Concept through the adoption of the first 4 Strategic Directives. The strategic directives, intended to serve as requirements frameworks around which new operational concepts for modern, distributed, information-based warfare can be developed, are:
- Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2)
- Joint Fires
- Contested Logistics
- Information Advantage
This final workshop in the series will offer a deep dive into Information Advantage, and seek to answer the following:
- What is the Strategic Directive of “Information Advantage” trying to achieve, and how will this be different than the capabilities that exist today?
- How will Information Advantage enhance other DoD capabilities?
- It is likely that developing a more effective Information Advantage capability will require investment in data collection, networking, data processing, Artificial Intelligence, investment in understanding whether or not information / data is reliable (in real time), and other areas. Is it possible to develop capabilities in a spiral, and how does the US develop a flexible architecture to support growth?
- What are the critical tasks or segments of the end-to-end Information Advantage “system” that cannot be addressed or afforded today?
- What technical, engineering, or doctrinal efforts are most critical to develop.
- To what extent do you see data gathered by “traditional” sources and data gathered from social media as complimentary? What are the advantages and pitfalls of this type of architecture?
- Presuming a distributed architecture is preferred to a centralized architecture, what capabilities are needed to maintain information agility?
- What program /system in development today could most accelerate Information Advantage capabilities?
- How does the US open the capabilities coming from Information Advantage to friends and allies?
- Are there sufficient models to guide system and doctrinal trades to develop enhanced Information Advantage?
- Does the current force structure adequately support Information Advantage? If not, how would fix this?
