Major General Jeffrey P. Van received a Bachelor of Science degree in General Business from University of Mississippi and was commissioned into the Mississippi National Guard after graduation. Major General Van also earned a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. During his 31 years of service he served in multiple leadership and operational positions within the 155th Brigade and the 35th Infantry Division, which have sent him on deployments to Bosnia, Iraq, and Kuwait.
His military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Airborne School, Air Assault School, Ranger School, Infantry Advanced Course, U.S. Army War College, and the Basic and Command Army Strategic Education Program. He is a member of the National Guard Association of Mississippi, National Infantry Association, Honorable Order of Saint George, Honorable Order of Saint Maurice, and Honorable Order of Saint Barbara, North Georgia Builders Group, and Life member of the National Rifle Association.
Following his tour as 155th Brigade Commander he served as the Director of Joint Staff for the Mississippi National Guard, where he was promoted to Brigadier General before being assigned as 35th Infantry Division Deputy Commanding General. He then served as the Assistant Chief of Staff, Director of Operations, G3 for U.S. Army Central Command, Shaw AFB, South Carolina.
Major General Van served as Chief of Staff for U.S. Army Central (USARCENT), perpetuating the lineage honors of Third Army and serving as the Army ServiceComponent Command/Theater Army of U.S. Central Command. He served as the principal assistant to the Commanding General for integration within the command and the staff while executing Title 10 support to over 30,000 U.S. and coalition land forces in the AOR. MG Van directed, supervised, integrated, and coordinated the work of the General Staff and the Special Staff of over 1,200 Soldiers, DA Civilians, and contractors at multiple command posts while achieving staff efficiency, cohesion and teamwork. Allocates and manages staff workload and priorities.
Major General Van currently serves as the Commanding General for Joint task Force Civil Support, Joint Base Langley Eustis, VA. He is responsible for leading the nation’s only standing Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Joint Task Force (JTF) ready to deploy within 24 hours. If called upon, JTFCS provides command and control of 5,200 federal military forces located at more than 36 locations throughout the nation acting in support of civil authority response operations.
Major General Van’s awards and decorations include Legion of Merit with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal with 1 Silver and 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Mississippi Magnolia Medal with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Mississippi War Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Mississippi Emergency Service Medal
