Lieutenant General Duane A. Gamble assumed duties as the U.S. Army Deputy Chief of Staff, G-4 on 16 September 2019. He oversees logistics policy and procedures to generate tactical, operational, and strategic readiness for our Army. He has focused the G-4 team on enabling logistics excellence at echelon in the execution of our Army priorities: People, Readiness, Modernization, and Reform.

A native of Arbutus, Maryland, Lieutenant General Gamble attended Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College), where he was a Distinguished Military Graduate and commissioned into the Ordnance Corps in May 1985. He has since earned Masters of Science degrees from the Florida Institute of Technology and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (now the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy).

His General Officer assignments include Commanding General (CG), U.S. Army Sustainment Command (ASC); CG, 21st Theater Sustainment Command (TSC); Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, G-4, Headquarters, Department of the Army (HQDA); Deputy CG (DCG), 1st TSC; DCG, ASC; and Director, Force Projection and Distribution, HQDA G-4.

Lieutenant General Gamble’s other command assignments include: Commander, 528th Sustainment Brigade (Airborne) supporting Army Special Operations Forces conducting counterterrorism operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Philippines; Commander, 426th Forward Support Battalion (Air Assault) supporting the Bastogne Brigade (1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division) during the Liberation of Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom I); and Commander, Company B, 782nd Maintenance Battalion (Airborne) supporting the Falcon Brigade (2nd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division) during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Shield.

Other key assignments include: Deputy J-4, United States Forces-Iraq during Operation New Dawn; G-4, XVIII Airborne Corps; J-4, Joint Task Force Haiti during Operation Unified Response; G-4, NATO Rapid Deployable Corps–Turkey; G-4, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) during the Transition of Iraq (OIF-2); and Logistics Operations Officer, Commander for Support during NATO Operations Deliberate Force and Joint Endeavor.

Lieutenant General Gamble’s decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters), Bronze Star Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), German Gold Cross of Honor, Air Assault Badge, and Master Parachutist Badge.
