Ms. Anita F. Bales was appointed as the Director, Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) on September 8, 2014. She manages the whole Agency, which operates under the direction, authority, and control of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Comptroller).

Before assuming her present position, Ms. Bales served as the Deputy Director, DCAA for three years. In this capacity, she assisted the Director, DCAA in leading and managing over 5,000 personnel and an annual operating budget of approximately $650 million.

Ms. Bales has 30 years of auditing experience. She began her career as an Auditor in 1984 with the U.S Army Audit Agency (USAAA). She progressed through the ranks as an audit supervisor, audit manager, and program director. In 2006, she entered the Senior Executive Service as the Deputy Auditor General, Forces and Financial Audits, USAAA. She served as the principal advisor to the Auditor General, U.S. Army. Since working at DCAA, Ms. Bales has been a powerful and successful change agent in the Agency’s drive for improved performance, customer relationships, and communications, all of which align with DCAA’s strategic goals and values.

Ms. Bales graduated from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Magna Cum Laude). She graduated at the top of her class from Syracuse University, New York with a Master’s degree in Business Administration. Ms. Bales is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Information Systems Auditor, and Certified Government Financial Manager. She is a member of the Association of Government Accountants and the American Society of Military Comptrollers. She also serves on the Professional Advisory Board at Drake University, School of Accounting.

Ms. Bales has received numerous awards and recognitions for performance excellence throughout her career, including the Neil R. Ginnetti Award presented by the Assistant Secretary of the Army, Financial Management and Comptroller, and the President’s Council on Integrity and Efficiency Award.
