NDIA NEXT: Navigating Headwinds to Ensure Readiness in Great Power Competition

(Arlington, VA) The National Defense Industrial Association announces NDIA NEXT, a sustained initiative to address the gap between U.S. defense strategy objectives and the posture of the U.S. Defense Industrial Base (U.S. DIB).

Currently, although the U.S. is in strategic competition with a rising China and a revisionist Russia, the health and resilience of the U.S. DIB is not structured for great power competition and has been battered by multiple challenges, including historically high inflation, prolonged budget instability, and compounding regulations.

NDIA has been a lead voice on these issues, from our flagship Vital Signs reports on the health and resilience of the U.S. DIB, to our work on CMMC, SBIR reauthorization, and intellectual property and our reports on the damaging effects of unfunded inflation and long-term continuing resolutions. These efforts have resulted in positive DoD and congressional actions that strengthen the DIB, including the 2024 National Defense Industrial Strategy. But more needs to be done.

“NDIA NEXT  builds on our critical efforts to date,” said the Honorable David L. Norquist, President and CEO of NDIA. “We will be expanding our engagement with DoD on wargaming, supply chain resilience, and rapidly incorporating emerging technologies. On issues from IP rights to AI and software we will work across communities to identify solutions that strengthen our defense industrial base and our national security. A brittle industrial base is a strategic vulnerability. A resilient defense industrial base is a powerful deterrent.”

In addition, starting in January 2025, NDIA will add three new membership types to better reflect the diversity of the defense ecosystem: academic, industry partner, and an enhanced individual professional memberships.

NDIA values its members and the essential services they provide to support national defense and security. To learn more, please visit NDIA.org/NEXT.
