NDIA announces retirement of beloved Maj. Gen. Boozer from its ranks
His successor, Brig. Gen. Walsh, USAF (Retired) is set to begin his appointment on June 1, 2023.
ARLINGTON, VA – The National Defense Industrial Association announced today that retired U.S. Army Major General James “Jim” Boozer is set to retire from NDIA on April 7th after a nearly six-year tenure with the association.
His departure will be felt across the NDIA family. As NDIA’s Chief Operating Officer, Boozer steered NDIA through successive business transformations and rapid growth, including leading the association through Covid-19.
“His leadership, collegiality, infectious warmth and positive attitude has consistently helped anchor NDIA through business and economic transitions. He has led with invaluable counsel and a calm stewardship that saw him win universal support and praise from across NDIA,” president and CEO of NDIA, David L. Norquist said.
“The entire membership of NDIA, its board of directors and I and the other three chairmen Jim served, are deeply indebted to him for his steady hand over the years – and his ability to serve as a model of leadership for NDIA through his trademark professionalism, good humor and grace,” NDIA board chair, Michael Bayer said.
Boozer became executive vice president of NDIA on December 4th 2017, after a storied 35-year career in the U.S. Army, from which he retired as a two-star general in October 2015. His last assignment was as Commander, U.S. Army Japan at Camp Zama in Japan. Prior to serving in Japan, Boozer was the Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army in Europe, the Army component for U.S. European Command in Weisbaden, Germany. Prior to that assignment, Boozer was the Operations Director for the Assistant Chief of Staff for Army Installations at the Pentagon in Washington, DC.
Boozer has served in various operational and staff assignments throughout the Army and commanded at the Brigade and 2 Star level. He served as chief of plans at U.S. Central Command Forward in Baghdad and Qatar. Boozer has also participated in multiple deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Boozer was a field artilleryman and commanded a brigade in Operation Iraqi Freedom 1 as a part of the Task Force that secured Baghdad. Boozer graduated from The Citadel in 1980 with a bachelor of arts degree in history. He received a master’s degree in strategic studies in 2001 from the U.S. Army War College.
“I know NDIA’s staff will continue to remain vigilant in the national security interests of this country and continue the hard, quiet work that often goes without notice,” Boozer said. “It has been an honor and privilege to serve this association, which has the mission of ensuring our warfighters have what they need, when they need it. Nancy and I look forward to returning home to South Carolina to be with our family of four children and nine grandchildren.”
His successor, Brig. Gen. Walsh, USAF (Retired) is set to begin his appointment on June 1, 2023.
