NDIA joins call to extend Section 3610 through 2021

7/31/2020

ARLINGTON, VA – The National Defense Industrial Association is asking Congress to extend authority in Section 3610 of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act beyond Sept. 30, 2020, to Dec. 31, 2021. This is to ensure continued operations across government as the pandemic endures, the Arlington, VA-based trade association announced July 31.

NDIA is among eight trade associations that signed a July 31 letter to congressional leaders. The letter states that while the groups are grateful for funding included in the Senate Republican proposal to cover costs related to Section 3610, “it has become clear that the rationale for the section still exists and will continue to exist into the next fiscal year.” Section 3610 authorizes reimbursement of “extraordinary and unanticipated government contractor costs” arising from COVID-19.

Private-sector firms that support critical government agency missions “continue to face the same ‘ready state’ workforce sustainment challenges that justified the enactment of Section 3610,” the letter states. “It is for this reason that we ask you to add an extension of the authority.”

Signing the letter with NDIA are AFCEA International, the  Associated General Contractors of America, CompTIA, The Center for Procurement Advocacy, the Intelligence and National Security Alliance, Professional Services Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
